1) The first thing you need to do is find out if any of your friends or relatives currently use a house cleaning service that they truly like, and would feel comfortable recommending to you. If they do, you have an excellent place to begin. You don't need to keep a maid just because she comes recommended by a close friend or relative, but word of mouth references are usually a great place to begin.
Step 2) The next place that you can begin looking for a maid or housekeeper is the phone book or the internet. If you choose to look online, try using searches such as "find housekeeper" or "find local maid service" and you will probably be directed to many ads and links directing you to home cleaning services. Some of the larger housekeeping companies tend to have a high turnover rate, and the maids that they employ may not do the best possible job. However, finding a smaller cleaning company will probably provide you with cleaners that have been working together for a while and will work harder to do a better job for you.
Step 3) Good communication is almost more important than choosing the home cleaning service. If you cannot communicate what your needs are to the people who clean your house, they won't know what you like and don't like. You might even want to create a check list so that they housekeepers can prioritize what you need to get done and in the time frame you're willing to pay for.
